Century of Giving

Family Service & Guidance Center was created in 1904 to assist Topeka flood victims. Over the years, the agency has evolved from a social welfare agency into the the Midwest's premier provider of mental and behavioral health care serves to children and families. One thing has not changed, however, our commitment to children. FSGC has earned a reputation over a century of service for being at the forefront of identifying community needs and implementing programming to meet those needs.

The difficult economic times in which we live have caused a significant increase in the demand for our services. Challenges like recession, unemployment and lay-offs create a tremendous amount of stress and potential conflict among families. More family stress and conflict means more demand for our mental and behavioral health care services.

Vision

The Family Service & Guidance Center Foundation is dedicated to cultivating relationships and engaging the community in the life of the organization in order to secure and invest private financial support to strengthen FSGC's programs and operations.

The FSGC Foundation holds a set of three core ideas:

  • belief if FSGC's works and in the positive potential of all children
  • partnership with our donors and supporters
  • ensuring the long-term viability of FSGC by service as responsible stewards.

Long-term Plan

Five Strategies:

  1. Expand FSGC's donor base by educating the community on the importance of access to quality, affordable community mental health services and the crucial role gifts from individuals, businesses and foundations play.
  2. Invest the endowment responsibly to maximize the value of secured gifts.
  3. Maintain the highest standards of responsible stewardship and accountability for all donors to FSGC.
  4. Conduct fundraising activities with the best interests of the children FSGC serves in mind.
  5. Provide personnel and other resources to support and implement these strategies.

Due to the magnitude and urgency of the need for expanded mental health services in our community, the FSGC Foundation has embarked on a three-year, $1 million Securing Brighter Futures Campaign. This campaign will see us through the tough financial times in which we find ourselves, and it will fortify FSGC for generations to come against changing tides and trends in funding.

The Securing Brighter Futures Campaign will enable FSGC to continue a century-old tradition of innovation and collaboration in the provision of new mental and behavioral healthcare services and programs.
