Hooray For Play -- Play Therapy Group

We know that play therapy group provides children with a psychosocial process, much as group therapy does for other ages.

Generally, play therapy groups provide an opportunity for children to see that others have problems, decrease feelings of being alone and increase feelings of belongingness, and provide opportunities to learn more effective ways of relating to others.  In particular, it seems relevant that a non-directive play therapy group process would be beneficial for young children who have not had many opportunities to socialize with their peers and learn to share and interact with one another.

Hooray for Play will be a play therapy group process for children ages 4 to 6 years.
We will consider older 3 year olds if we have any referrals.  The goal of this 8 week long group is to provide socialization opportunities for FSGC clients who currently do not meet criteria for our psychosocial programs, but would benefit from social skills practice with peers that they cannot receive in individual or family therapy.  Co-facilitators will act as coaches during the group time to facilitate peer interaction, sharing, use of anger management skills, as well as basic social skills.

Children with most diagnostic issues will be considered for the group, specifically children with anxiety issues, depressive issues, and poor or no social skills.
