What should I wear?
Wear “festive attire.” According to Emily Post, festive attire is somewhere between dressy casual and semiformal/cocktail.
For men, a seasonal sport coat or blazer and slacks and an open-collar shirt would be fine. Tie is optional. If you do sport a tie, consider something kid-oriented or art-inspired.
Women wear short cocktail dresses, long dressy shirts and tops or a dressy pants outfit, appropriate to the season.
What time should I arrive?
Many special events have a long cocktail hour. We do not! The event starts 6 p.m. with Our Featured Child Artists waiting to talk to you about their work.
Mini-live auctions will start as early as 6:30, so you don't want to miss your chance at snagging some great art and helping the over-11,000 children FSGC serves each year.
What are “mini-live auctions?”
Mini-live auctions are a new and exciting addition to this year’s Works of Heart Event.
At 6:40 p.m. and 7 p.m. we will have mini-live auctions. These are live auctions that will be held in the silent auction area. The idea is to generate excitement and allow guests to purchase some amazing professional artwork prior to dinner and the evening’s live auction. Bid early and bid often!
Don’t miss out! Check back at www.fsgctopeka.com the week of the Works of Heart Event for a list of mini-live auction pieces and their times.
So then what's in the live auction after dinner?
Most of the live auction pieces will be works created by young artists who receive services at FSGC. A few professional pieces will also be up for bids during the live auction, including pieces inspired by poetry written by FSGC clients. The auction will begin immediately after dinner.
Are the pieces inspired by poetry again this year?
Yes! This year, Works of Heart explored the world of poetry. Last spring, local artist and film director Matt Porubsky spent a day with children from FSGC, teaching them about poetry. The poems were collected and given to local artists who each chose a poem that inspired them, and created original and truly stunning pieces based on their poems.
