There is a lot of work and excitement the months prior to the annual event. We wanted to share all of the action with you to showcase how much the artists enjoy being apart of Works of Heart.

Works of Heart First Friday ArtWalk
Dozens of works of art and even more smiles were on display Friday, August 5, at FSGC’s Works of Heart First Friday ArtWalk at Warehouse 414. All of our Featured Young Artists artwork was on display as well as professional pieces from across the country that have been donated.
Food, art and laughter filled the warehouse as a group of young violinists set the mood. Over 400 people turned out to view and complement the children’s artwork.
The 5th annual Works of Heart Art Event and Auction is just around the corner, taking place Friday, August 26th, at the Ramada Hotel and Convention Center, Downtown Topeka. Tickets are on sale now for $125. For more information or to purchase tickets to this tremendous event, call Kerrice at 270-8907 today!

Art Project with Marni Schleuning
Watch a video from KSNT News
Art is heavily in the air as the 2011 Works of Heart Annual Event and Auction nears.
As the child artists gathered in the cafeteria of FSGC, the welcoming smell of acrylic paint wafted throughout the agency as excitement levels began to sky rocket. Â
Each child artist worked with professional artist Marni Schleuning to help her create something beautiful out of something not so beautiful.
“I want to show you that you don’t have to a lot of money to do art, you can use anything you find and turn it into something beautiful,” said Schleuning.

Artists' Reception
Several local professional artists joined staff and board members from FSGC for the annual Works of Heart Artists’ Reception, hosted by Beth Anne and Russ Branden at BA Designs.
All of the pieces created by our 2011 Featured Young Artists were on display, and a number of local artists stopped by to drop off their donated pieces as well as enjoy a beverage and hors d’oeuvres.
Be sure to check out the amazing works of art that have been donated for this year’s art event under the “View Art” tab on the Works of Heart web page. We’re honored to be working with some wonderful artists this year and are thankful for their contributions!

Tour of Topeka Hallmark Plant
All of us at FSGC knew that our 2011 Featured Young Artists are VIPs. Now, our good friends at the local Hallmark production facility know it.
Last Friday, our talented artists and parents/guardians got a behind-the-scenes VIP tour of the plant and got to see how their Works of Heart are turned into notecards.
Each of the artists were thrilled to see how their cards were made and even got an up-close glimpse at the giant press that created each of the cards.
After the tour, some artists were interviewed about Works of Heart for possible inclusion in the video that will be shown at the Works of Heart Art Event and Auction, Friday, August 26th. Special thanks to the crew from Gizmo Pictures for their hard work producing the video!

Parents and Artists Meeting
Our 2011 Featured Child Artists -- veterans and rookies alike -- gathered in the FSGC cafeteria Monday night to learn more about this year’s Works of Heart Art Event and Auction, Friday, August 26th.
Kerrice provided a quick orientation to the event as well as the fun summertime activities the artists will participate in. Erika, a second-time Works of Heart Featured Artist, talked about how much of a rush she felt last year when her art piece was being auctioned off.
Our artists and their parents left the meeting excited and ready to go. This is to be a fun summer!
First activity up: a special VIP June 10th tour of the Topeka Hallmark plant for each artist and a parent or guardian. Stay tuned for more information!

Hallmark Meeting
Despite the gloomy weather, today was a bright day for Family Service & Guidance Center’s 5th Annual Works of Heart Art Event and Auction!
Members of the PR/Marketing/Development team met with staff from the Topeka Hallmark plant to showcase this year’s selected pieces of art by some of FSGC’s most talented young artists and discuss production of Works of Heart notecards created by Hallmark. Each year, ten pieces are chosen to be auctioned at the Works of Heart Event and featured on notecards that can be purchased and serve as mementos of the event. Truth be told, the artists also receive some bragging rights for having their art work on a Hallmark card.
Hallmark will also invite the artists to tour the plant later this summer to see how their artwork becomes beautiful note cards. The tour has become one of the most remembered and anticipated Works of Heart events for the artists.
Today, the teams hashed out deadlines for the notecards and possible tour dates. Hallmark staff were very impressed with all the art pieces and excited about starting the printing process. Both FSGC and Hallmark look forward to Works of Heart each year because of the wonderful, positive impact it has on the young artists.
