Independent Living Skills
FSGC's Independent Living Skills program empowers teens to locate community resources and excel in daily life on their own by teaching skills which are crucial to lead a successful life.
The Independent Living for Teenagers group is
targeted to clients aged 15 to 21 who are having difficulty in school, at home or in the community. These teenagers are emotionally distrubed and utilize Community Based Services and are interested in preparing to become independent. This eight-week program teaches skills which will assist them in an independent lifestyle
Program staff work to develop an individualized plan tailored to meet each person's unique needs for their transition into adult life. Each participant will be equipped with informal and formal contacts and resources as well as the knowledge of knowing how to access them. Program staff will provide positive, responsible leadership, encouraging program participants to become positive role models within their communities.
The program curriculum is based on a client's individual plan and includes:
- Seeking Community Resources
- Banking and Money Management
- Shopping and Meal Planning
- Cooking, Cleaning andHome Safety
- Public and Private Transportation
- Personal Health
- Relationship Building Recreational Activities
- Information on Job Searches
- Interviewing Skills
