Postmaster's Fellowship Program

The fellowship is designed to provide a year of specialized experience for master’s level social work practitioners to aid in the development of clinical and professional skills. The program consists of clinical work, supervisory, and educational opportunities which together provide an experience rich in learning opportunities. The program is based in a mental health center which provides community based services to a broad range of clientele – varying widely across the diagnostic and socioeconomic spectrum. The agency specializes in services to infants, children, and adolescents and their families.

Agency Information

Family Service & Guidance Center of Topeka Kansas (FSGC) is a private, non-profit community mental health center (CMHC). It has a one hundred year history of providing service to the Topeka community. Currently it provides a range of services for children and youth age birth to 18 and their families. The services include traditional outpatient services, i.e., therapies and medication management and emergency services. It also provides intensive Community Based Services (CBS), i.e., case management, day treatment programs, and psycho-educational groups. Specific agency programs include the following: Attention-deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Program, Center for Learning Disorders, Early Childhood Intervention Program, Eating Disorders Program, Emergency Services, Support Groups, and Youth Development Center.

Compensation Information

Postmaster’s fellows receive a stipend of $19,000 for the year, nine paid holidays, two weeks annual leave, 5 days of educational leave, $350 for workshop and conference expenses, and one day of sick leave per month. Mileage is available at the rate of 33 cents per mile for travel to clinical and training appointments (not travel to and from work). Medical and dental insurance is available.

Application Requirements

To be eligible for the program, applicants must have an MSW degree conferred prior to the start of the fellowship year which runs from the first Monday of June through the last day of May. They must be license eligible in the state of Kansas at the LMSW level. Application is made through submission of a packet including a completed application form, 3 letters of reference from people familiar with your clinical work, and a copy of both undergraduate and graduate transcripts. We also require an onsite interview.
