Santa’s looking for a few good elves!

The only thing better than getting holiday gifts is giving them!

That’s why Family Service & Guidance Center invites you, your family, your co-workers, your church group – anyone! – to be among Santa’s Little Helpers this season.

Kaleena Harmer, accountant in FSGC’s finance department, coordinates FSGC’s annual Santa’s Little Helpers initiative designed to make the holidays happier for client families that might not have a Christmas otherwise. This year, the program will assist about 35 families.

“Every year, FSGC staff members submit the names of hard-working families who deserve a hand this Christmas,” she explained. “This year, we also have a lot of client families who have been really hard hit by the pandemic. The holidays look pretty bleak for them.”

Each selected family completes a wish list that includes clothing sizes for the entire family as well as things the children are interested in. Each family member gets a clothing outfit, a modest gift or toy and items like body wash, deodorant, shampoo and a toothbrush with toothpaste. The family also gets needed household cleaning supplies and everything they need for a special meal.

This may sound like a very simple Christmas; however, Harmer says that Santa’s Little Helpers has a big impact on participating families.

“When I deliver gifts and groceries each year, there are lots of tears and heartfelt ‘thank yous,’” she said. “The kids are always excited to get gifts, but the parents are just as grateful. You can tell that a great weight has been lifted off their shoulders.”

We need donors, supporters and friends like you to be Santa’s Little Helpers this year! Join us in bringing the joy of the holidays to families that would otherwise be left out. We’ll even battle the crowds and do the shopping for you!
