Family Service & Guidance Center is pleased to announce the receipt of a generous $5,000 gift from the Westar Energy Foundation.
The check was presented at the April meeting of the FSGC board of directors by Bruce Akin, Senior VP at Westar Energy and FSGC board member. Accepting the check were Brenda Mills, CEO of Family Service & Guidance Center, and Lori Rowe, Chair of the FSGC Foundation board.
The gift is earmarked for the FSGC Therapeutic Play Park, a new playground for FSGC children ages 5-12. Construction on the Therapeutic Play Park is scheduled to begin in Spring 2016.
Mills said that the new playground will be more than a place to play.
“The Therapeutic Play Park will enable older FSGC kids to have a place to learn and practice important social and emotional skills that come from playing,” she said. Those skills include cooperation and taking turns, sharing, anger management and following rules.
“These seemingly simple skills are crucial to a child’s future success in the classroom, at home and, ultimately, in the workplace.”
FSGC has raised $226,000 of the $354,000 needed to build and equip the Therapeutic Play Park.
