Family Service and Guidance Center

Serving the Shawnee County Community for 100 years

When community leaders founded the Associated Charities - later to become Family Service and Guidance Center - in 1904, little did they know that the organization would still be going strong 100 years later, serving over 9,500 children, youth and families with mental health services and educational outreach each year.

From its first charitable act - providing housing, food and clothing to Topeka flood victims - to today, Family Service and Guidance Center (FSGC) has always been committed to improving the lives of local children and families. This includes establishing the first kindergarten for African-American children in Topeka as well as a cooking school for African-American girls in the 1930s.

Today, FSGC takes pride in being the only agency in northeast Kansas that focuses its resources exclusively on the unique mental health needs of children and families. FSGC offers a vast array of specialized services and has established a reputation of stepping forward to meet challenges.
