Insurance for Mental Health Care

No Surprises Act, Income Guidelines & Sliding Fee for Services

Your rights and protections against surprise medical bills

The No Surprises Act was passed by Congress in 2020 to help reduce the problem of consumers receiving an unexpected bill in an emergency situation or when they are out-of-network.

By law, health care providers (including mental health providers) need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using their insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.

  • You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services.
  • If FSGC becomes aware your provider is out-of-network, you will be given an estimate of the cost before your appointment in compliance with the No Surprises Act.
  • Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least one business day before your service or item. If you need an estimate, call 785.232.5005 and ask to speak to Accounts Receivable.
  • You can ask your health care provider and any other provider you choose for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service. If you need an estimate, call 785.232.5005 and ask to speak to Accounts Receivable.
  • If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.
  • Make sure you keep a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 1.877.696.6775.
