Supported Employment and Supported Education in Topeka

Individual Placement & Support (IPS)

Helping young adults find good jobs and further their education.

IPS helps young adults ages 15-26 with mental health issues find jobs they are interested in and then support them to keep their job. IPS Specialists also help young adults who want to continue their education.

IPS Supported Employment helps match young people with mental health challenges to local jobs that fit with their skills and interests. Studies show that work is important to help individuals feel more independent as well as better connected to other people and their community.

FSGC Employment Specialists assist the jobseeker in developing career goals and finding jobs that align with those goals. Then the Specialists provide job supports that help the individual maintain their employment and allow them to pursue their career goals.

IPS Supported Education helps young adults who want to go to school or get job training. The service is tailored to each individual, assisting them as they look at careers and education programs that fit their interests. IPS Specialists are there to provide valuable support throughout the education process.

IPS Specialists focus on mainstream education programs where eligibility is based on grades, age or past education. These mainstream programs include:

  • High schools
  • GED (General Educational Development) classes
  • Community colleges
  • Joint vocational schools
  • Schools with certificate programs, like cosmetology, culinary and truck driving schools.
  • Four-year colleges and universities

IPS Specialists do not promote education programs created for people with disabilities.
