Early Childhood Intervention Program (ECIP)

Providing positive experiences in early childhood

In the first five years of life, children’s brains create millions of new connections. In fact, children’s brains develop faster in the first five years than at any other time in their lives. Positive experiences and relationships help speed that process even faster. Some children need help developing connections and learning important pre-kindergarten skills, like following directions, taking turns, cooperating, self-soothing and sharing.

Step1 out of 4 steps

The Early Childhood Intervention Program (ECIP) is a half-day therapeutic children’s group program in Topeka for young children ages 2-6. This program helps children who are experiencing severe problems with their social, behavioral and emotional development.

Most ECIP children have been asked to leave at least one daycare setting or preschool due to their behavior.

Step2 out of 4 steps

One hundred percent of children participating in ECIP have been tapped for special education classes once they enter kindergarten.

However, 80 percent of children who complete their ECIP treatment plan end up enrolling in regular education kindergarten classes with no need for further intervention.

Step3 out of 4 steps

ECIP teaches the importance of structure and routine for the young child while meeting each child’s unique needs.

The program ECIP helps children acquire the skills they need to be successful at home and school, into kindergarten and beyond Groups are kept small (4-8 children) so participating children can receive maximum attention from FSGC staff members.

Step4 out of 4 steps

ECIP also offers preschool consultation, a free service. Specialists trained in both mental health and early childhood development visit a child’s daycare setting to assess whether they are struggling with emotional or behavioral challenges.

This helpful service is available to any preschool child care or home day care center in Shawnee County, Kansas.
