Bank of America makes parenting group possible

All parents struggle with their kids. When they do, they need proven, practical advice.

Thanks to a generous $5,000 contribution from Bank of America, Family Service & Guidance Center can provide advice via the FSGC Parent Education Program. The gift helps ensure the continuation of the program.

Connie Romig, Ph.D., and FSGC Coordinator of Training and Education said that the program has grown steadily and has become one of FSGC’s most popular.

“I get calls from parents regularly, asking when the next group will start,” Dr. Romig said. “This wonderful gift couldn’t have come at a better time.”

Not only is the program popular; it’s effective, she said. In the most recent session, 76 percent of parents who completed the class reported feeling less stressed about parenting their children and felt more self-assured in their own parenting skills and abilities.

The Parent Education Program is a free, eight-week class that meets once a week for 90 minutes. It’s open to the public and teaches parents new parenting strategies that enable them to feel more in control as parents while developing more positive relationships with their children. The parenting program also provides support to parents who quickly learn that other parents are having similar experiences.
