FSGC “Making a Difference” Award Winners announced

Family Service & Guidance Center is pleased to announce the six recipients of the organization’s annual “Making a Difference” Award, given for providing direct therapeutic services or administrative support that helps northeast Kansas children living with anxiety, depression, ADHD and other mental health issues and their families.

The 2019 award winners are:

  • Elizabeth Akins, Mental Health Specialist category
  • Tonia Anderson, Case Management/Care Coordinator category
  • Brynn Hooper, Clinical category
  • Shanina Marin, Attendant and Respite Care category
  • Mary Radefeld, Support Staff category
  • Candace Watson, Supervisor category

Brenda Mills, Family Service & Guidance Center CEO, said that any number of staff members could be tapped for the honor because of their professionalism and dedication to children and teens.

“Each year, however, a handful of staff members stand out by providing service to our kids and families that consistently exceeds expectations,” Mills said. “The ‘Making a Difference’ Awards are FSGC’s way of honoring them.”

Awards are presented in six staff categories each year. Honorees were nominated by their co-workers and selected by a committee of FSGC staff members representing all areas of the agency.

Recipients of the award are selected for effectiveness in their work with children, families and co-workers; zeal in promoting the advancement of mental health; and professional interest and involvement.

Family Service & Guidance Center is a nonprofit community mental health center that serves approximately 12,000 northeast Kansas children, adolescents and families each year with a full range of mental health care services to treat anxiety, depression, ADHD and other common mental health issues.
