FSGC to increase access, expand services with $4 million CCBHC grant

Children, teens and families who receive care at Family Service & Guidance Center are going to be able to get more timely access to services as well as more comprehensive mental health care, thanks to a four-year, $4 million grant from the Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) in Washington, D.C.

The award will make it possible for FSGC to become a Comprehensive Community Behavioral Health Clinic, or CCBHC.

“This is very exciting news for the thousands of youth and families we serve each year,” said Kathy Mosher, Chief Executive Officer at FSGC. “The CCBHC model is the gold standard of mental health care, so this is a huge step in providing the best possible care to all of our clients across northeast Kansas.”

The goal of the CCBHC program is to increase FSGC’s capacity and infrastructure for providing comprehensive coordinated care and expand access to high-quality, evidence-based services. This includes:

  • Increasing access to community-based mental health and substance use disorder treatment.
  • Serving people in their homes, in the community or via telehealth, whenever possible.
  • Advancing integration of behavioral health with physical health care. Each client will receive regular health screenings.
  • Enhancing services tailored to meet the unique needs of transition-aged youth aged 16-25 in collaboration with Valeo Behavioral Health Care.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is the agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) that leads public health efforts to advance the behavioral health of the nation and to improve the lives of individuals living with mental and substance use disorders, and their families.

Family Service & Guidance Center is a nonprofit community mental health center that serves more than 10,000 northeast Kansas children, adolescents and families each year with a full range of mental health care services to treat anxiety, depression, ADHD and other common mental health challenges.
