New approach brings enhanced community mental health care

Northeast Kansas children and families will reap significant benefits as Family Service & Guidance Center embarks on a new way of providing services.

FSGC has been provisionally approved as a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) by the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services, effective July 1.

“The CCBHC model is the national gold standard of care in behavioral health,” said Kathy Mosher, CEO of Family Service & Guidance Center. “The goal is to provide even better outcomes, better access and better quality of care for everyone.”

As a CCBHC, FSGC will add staff members to increase access and provide whole-person care as part of a seamless continuum of outpatient, home- and community-based behavioral health care. FSGC will continue to serve children and families, regardless of their ability to pay. The CCBHC model will expand the level of support for individuals the organization cares for.

Other beneficial features of CCBHCs include:

  • Expanded crisis services.
  • Care coordination to help people navigate the physical health care, mental health care, addiction treatment and social service systems.
  • Enhanced peer-to-peer and family support.
  • Increased outreach efforts and elimination of barriers to service for underserved groups.

The CCBHC designation comes after months of planning and countless hours of hard work and training on the part of all 260+ Family Service & Guidance Center employees.
